Redesiging the UI for the iconic RPG

In 2006, Nintendo released the RPG Mother 3 exclusively in Japan. It gained a considerable following in the U.S., and recently, a team of creatives made a fan tribute site for a reimagined re-release. The fan tribute is super cool with updated graphics, but they never designed an updated UI. I set out to create a modern UI for the game to address the pain points from the original game.

Research

I don't play video games that often. Awkward. So when I was tasjed with redesigning one, I felt incompetent. So, I did what you do to learn about the domain. Research. I researched what kinds of games are in right now, what people value in a game, and the pain points they currently have with them.

My task was to redesign two screens: the fight menu and the inventory. Two of the main topics I researched were what makes a good inventory and fight menu in video games overall.
